Binational Emergency Medical Care Committee
Fall 2012

   A Note From Our Editor

Welcome to our Fall Newsletter! As always, transports are always a top priority for BEMCC when a person is sick or injured while traveling across the border. One call to our 24 hour emergency service sets the wheels in motion in coordinating a transport. Calls to hospitals, first responders, border officials, etc. are essential during this time period for a successful transport. Always remember to carry your BEMCC Lifesaver Card, along with any U.S. insurance information. This information is always critical for a successful transport. As a BEMCC member, this information is kept by us and can be accessed immediately once a phone call is received.

   Binational International Cooperation Conference

The cooperation between U.S. and Mexico officials is why BEMCC is so successful. Our Executive Director, Celia Diaz, keeps in constant contact to insure this bond is always kept. Binational's Conference for International Cooperation in 2012 was again a huge success. Officials from both sides of the border came together for an evening of awards, celebration, and speakers. Such notables included Chief David Bejarano, Chula Vista Police Department as our Key Note speaker, along with Tijuana Chief of Police Jesus Alberto Capella Ibarra and National City Chief of Police Adolfo Gonzalez. In addition, other representatives of the California and Baja California Government offices, including U.S. & Mexico Consular officials among others. Celia has always insisted upon the cooperation of these officials for the past 36 years, and keeps the lines of communication open. Their presence is essential, and Binational always wishes to thank them for their support! (see photos)

   A Child In Need

A phone call is received....and a child's life is changed. When our Executive Director Celia Diaz heard about a 6 year old child in need of emergency care, her only thought was, " ..how can I help this child?." After 36 years, Celia is still emotional and passionate about the people she helps...escpecially children. This unique case involved a 6 year old child who was deaf, but had suddenly lost her sight as well.

" Upon arrival to Children's hospital the doctors ran many tests but have not been able to find out why the child suddenly went blind" (read more)
